The Branford boys’ soccer team had a
great showing last week as Paul Hunter’s squad first earned a 1-0 win
at North Haven in Southern Connecticut Conference Oronoque Division
play, followed by a 6-0 triumph against The Sport and Medical Sciences
Academy-Hartford (SMSA).
Ben Backes scored on a 25-yard free kick 24 minutes into the North Haven that held up as the winning goal.
“The team again showed a lot of
intensity and resolve and came away with the victory,” said Hunter,
whose team is 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the Oronoque. “Ivan [Feschenko]
was superb in the goal for us and saved two partial breakaways. Subs
Tom Verderamne and Josh DiNoto provided some much needed energy in the
second half.”
Against SMSA, Cameron Brown scored
two goals with an assist, Kenny Byrne scored two goals, James D’Amico
had a goal with an assist, Josh DiNoto recorded two assists, Joey
Mauriello scored a goal, and Nildi Pino had an assist.
