The Branford girls’ soccer team picked
up its first win of the season last week as junior Nicole
Paviglionite’s hat trick highlighted a 6-0 home triumph against The
Sport and Medical Sciences Academy-Hartford.
Paviglionite notched her first goal
just 2:42 into the contest and sophomore Melissa Guillemette then made
it 2-0 a minute later as she put one home on an assist from freshman
Laura Peterson. Paviglionite scored her second goal at the 12:38 mark
of the first half, after which she completed the hat trick with a goal
at 15:03.
Freshman Kelly Parker’s goal at 20:12
made it 5-0 at halftime and then in the second half, junior Ariana
Ruggerio scored on an assist from Paviglionite for the Hornets’ final
goal.
Branford outshot its opponent 30-2 as senior Molly Poryanda gained the win in net by making one save.
The win was a crucial one for
Branford, which dropped its first four games of the fall to stand at
1-4, yet still has plenty of games left to achieve its goals of
returning to the state tournament and contending for the Oronoque
Division crown.
